Using physical activity to connect wellbeing with life skills
The Turkish pilot was implemented through the existing sports school programmes of Spor Istanbul at the Kartal Hasan Doğan Sports Complex.
The programme reached almost 1,500 children during the 6th term, offering each child the opportunity to participate in different sports and physical activities.
A distinctive element of the Turkish approach was the combination of physical activity with Sports Culture and Values Education. Educational cards, game-based activities, values medals and motivational materials were used to address themes such as respect, responsibility, friendship, fair play, healthy choices and personal development. In this way, sport was used not only to encourage children to be physically active, but also as an environment for social, emotional and lifestyle education.
